At the heart of the 2023 Peugeot e-208 is an all-new motor and battery combination which is doing diligent service underneath the electric 308. This sees power jump from 136bhp to 156bhp – an increase of 15 per cent. Whilst Peugeot hasn’t provided details on the performance increase on offer, we reckon the previous 8.5 seconds will be cut to below eight.
Alongside more power, more range is now on offer thanks to an increase in battery capacity from 46.6kWh (net) to 48.1kWh (net – 51kWh gross). This sees the WLTP range jump from 225 miles to 248 miles.
Peugeot has kept the improvements to the e-208 which focussed on efficiency and were introduced back in 2021. These comprised a heat pump coupled with a humidity sensor on top of the windscreen to optimise the efficiency of the heating and air conditioning within the passenger compartment, new A+ rated tyres with ultra-low rolling resistance, and a revised transmission ratio which increased efficiency at higher speeds.
Cumulatively, the 2021 improvements and the new powertrains have seen the e-208 gain 17.65 per cent more range whilst reducing energy consumption by 15 per cent.
Charging is still undertaken via a standard 7.4kW on-board charger or optional 11kW variant, as well as at up to 100kW DC which deliver 20-80 per cent in less than 25 minutes.
The updated car will be available in early 2023.
