1900hp all-electric hypercar

The Pininfarina Battista arrives in 2020 as the most powerful road-legal car ever, and it's all-electric. Thanks to a 120kWh lithium ion battery pack it produces approximately 1900hp and 1696lb-ft of torque. This means it can accelerate from zero to 62mph in a mind-blowing sub-two seconds, while its top speed of 186mph takes 12 seconds.

It's built by Automobili Pininfarina, a new company, located in Munich, that sits parallel to the established Pininfarina SpA based in Cambiano, near Turin – Italy’s most famous automotive design house. The project follows the company’s 2015 acquisition by an Indian multinational conglomerate, Mahindra Group, which paid around £125m.

The electrical architecture is being co-developed with Rimac (a supplier to Aston Martin, Renault and others) and its range is likely to be around 300 miles, 80 per cent of which can be replenished in 40 minutes on a rapid charger.

A total of 150 Battistas will be built at a cost of approximately £2 million each.
